Finkelstein's test is conducted to assess the De Quervain's tenosynovitis or also known as the De Quervain's syndrome. The De Quervain's tenosynovitis is a condition where the two tendons: (the abductor pollicis longus and the extensor pollicis brevis, present at the base of the thumb and run through a small tunnel called thenar snuffbox, become inflammed) and cause pain at the base of the thumb; Moreover, these tendons become inflammed due to repetitive activities and limit the movement of the thumb ultimately! Furthermore, to begin the test, the patient is firstly asked to make a fist and then the doctor grasps the affected thumb of the patient and ulnarly deviates it, if pain accured at the distal part of the radius during the test, the test would be considered positive for De Quervain's tenosynovitis!
