"Inhibited Glute Syndrome" A.k.a. my clinician hasn't been keeping update with evidence for the past 10 years. Despite what running magazines might say, glutes muscles don't "forget" how to function. The glutes are no more important than any other hip extensor muscle. Many people feel broken enough without adding on theoretical dysfunctions. Research shows us more gluteus maximus activity in the presence of pain and injury. You also only really need glute max activity for heavy load, end range activities such as sprinting, climbing and heavy lifting. We don't need much glute activity when walking or jogging. Just like every other muscle, glutes can become weak. Resistance training for the hips can lead to greater movement variability, increase one's control over their pain and kickstarted their journey to physical activity. But this gives no reason to pathologise gluteal activity as a driver of dysfunction and pain.
